Hosted by Alex Putra, Chapel Row Jazz brings a stellar rotating lineup of Sydney’s emerging jazz musicians to the Reagh Bar each Friday night. A Sydney-based composer and multi-instrumentalist performing on euphonium, trombone and cornet, Alex performs widely across the city and has earned recognition at metropolitan, state and national level competitions. He is currently studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he serves as musical director of the FUNKD Big Band.
Each week, Alex curates a changing cast of collaborators drawn from Sydney’s most active young players — Conservatorium students, award-winning instrumentalists, big band performers and working professionals appearing regularly at the city’s leading jazz venues. The result is a live session built on modern arrangements, jazz standards and spontaneous moments that only happen in the room. No two Fridays sound the same.
It’s less formal concert, more Friday night session: musicians playing for the love of it, a crowd that’s there for the vibe, and a bar that feels like a hidden jazz club in the middle of the city.
